"Blood For Speech": a de/recomposition of Radiohead's "Pyramid Song".
"Blood For Speech" is the fourth in a series of works that explore melodies as memes--musical ideas that are propagated through repetition--and how, through processes of variation and mutation, their meaning is altered.
Preserving only the core melodic and/or lyrical elements that provoke recognition, new and unexpected narratives emerge by modifying the structure and context of the original.
The composition is structured on harmonic reduction/distillation.
For soprano, low strings, 2 harpsichords, and psaltery ensemble.
lyrics
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt.
All my pasts and futures
Were there with me.
A moon full of stars
I jumped in the river.
